Sillustani Towers
The Sillustani Towers, located near Lake Umayo just outside of Puno, Peru, are ancient funerary monuments built by the pre-Incan Colla people. Known as chullpas, these impressive stone towers—some over 12 metres tall—were used to bury nobles and are notable for their cylindrical shape and precise stonework. Set against a stunning highland landscape, Sillustani offers visitors a unique combination of archaeology and natural beauty. A visit here provides deep insight into Peru’s ancient civilisations and is a peaceful escape from the more crowded tourist sites.
