The local people (Taquilenos) live on their textile activities. This is noticeable as the men, walking in their rubber sandals ('ojotas' in Quechua), still wear black trousers, white flannel shirts and beautiful, finely woven chumpis (belts), with their heads covered by finely knitted 'chullos' (caps with ear flaps). This is an ancient civilisation that continues living the traditions and laws of the Incas.
