Domeyko Mountains
The Domeyko Mountains, stretching parallel to the Andes in northern Chile, are a lesser-known but striking feature of the Atacama Desert. Named after the Polish-Chilean geologist Ignacio Domeyko, this ancient range is known for its colorful rock formations, mineral-rich layers, and stark desert beauty. The mountains offer incredible viewpoints and are often seen in contrast to the vast salt flats and valleys nearby, such as the Moon Valley. A visit to the Domeyko Range adds depth and geological wonder to any Atacama Desert adventure.
